Wool Saddle Blanket
These blankets are hand-latched, with wool roping, on a burlap foundation and are attractive, durable, and comfortable, for both horse and rider. These blankets are designed to be used as saddle blankets but are also great in your favorite chair, in the vehicle, or anywhere else a soft spot is appreciated. Smaller and larger blankets are available upon request. Please contact us for a price quote.

Base colors available are the natural ones: white, grey/gray, brown, or black (Note: natural black often can appear more brown).

Dyed colors for Accessory (Accent) available: moss green, bright green, teal, light blue, navy blue, turquoise, red, purple, black, and burgundy.

Please inform us of your choice of base and accessory colors and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Patterns available as shown in photo (from the bottom to the top): double border, checkerboard, triple border, half-diamond. Please specify your choice.

All blankets are approximately 1" (2.5cm) thick. Weights range from approximately 3 lb (1.36 kg) for the smaller blankets to 4 lb (1.81 kg) for the larger blankets.

The Creation of a Hand-Latched Wool Saddle Blanket
To create a high-quality, hand-latched wool saddle blanket, it is of the utmost importance to start with a good quality burlap foundation. Burlap is the best foundation for a saddle blanket as it is a natural fiber which allows the blanket to breathe and also conforms perfectly with the horse's back. The weave of the burlap must be tight and even, otherwise the blanket will feel loose and sloppy, will have a shorter using life and will just not be a high-quality blanket.
For each blanket, a piece of burlap is cut with all sides being approximately one inch wider than the desired finished size eg: for a 32" X 32" blanket, the burlap is cut 33" X 33". Then on two sides, each 9th string is pulled through. This creates a "checkerboard" pattern, and it is at the junctions of each square that the wool is pulled through. The raw ends of the burlap are fixed with Fray Check, then each edge is double hemmed to ensure that there will never be any unraveling.
Now using a latch-hook tool, the work begins with the wool roping to complete the blanket. The patterns and designs are limited only to the crafter's imagination.

Wool Wither Pad
Proper fit is essential to the comfort and performance of your horse. Fit can often be difficult to achieve for a variety of reasons - weight gain or loss of your horse, using your saddle on different horses, etc. These problems may be alleviated with the use of a wool wither pad. The pads are designed to fit over your horse’s withers, either directly against the hair or on top of another pad, and may be just what is needed to help ensure a comfortable fit for your horse. The pads can be used with Western or English saddles.
