Enough with the administrivia,

Here's the history!
We've had many inquiries from customers who have been searching for glass moose mugs (eggnog cups, reindeer glasses, steins, bowls, . . . whatever!) like those that were featured in the movie "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" (1989), by Warner Bros. The glass moose mugs were in the shape of a moose head - they had antlers on either side (for handles) and had a moose snout and eyes.

Note: We will not be posting pictures from the movie here due to obvious legalities. Our Moose Mugs (we have also been developing a line of other Canadian animal mugs: Bear Mugs, Wolf Mugs, Beaver Mugs, etc. - stay tuned for more info!!) will be similar to, but not exactly the same as, the mugs in the movie (we will not be infringing on any copyright). We do not have any exact specifications of what these glass mugs were like so we are producing moose products which we believe will be what our customers are looking for. To refresh your memory, watch the movie again (buy it on DVD) and have a laugh! You will be supporting Warner Bros. at the same time!

In the movie, Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) and his cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid) drank eggnog from glass moose-shaped mugs (at Clark's house, during the Christmas holidays).

The glass mugs were probably a throw-back (a 'string' is another word for linking movies together) to the original movie "National Lampoon's Vacation" (1983). The Griswold family visited the theme park "Walley World" and were probably meant to have acquired the glass mugs there. The moose connection was probably to "Marty Moose", the "Walley World" mascot.

Through Warner Bros., we have determined that these glass mugs were "props" only (fashioned specifically for movie filming). Alas, the glass mugs were never produced for consumer use.

BUT...

Due to a demand for glass moose-shaped mugs, by tourists and movie buffs as well, we have designed our own glass vessels and
they are ready to go!!

Cost Solution 1: To get these glass Moose Mugs down to a nice cheap price would be a simple process: pay a large glass manufacturer US$100,000 for a complicated mold and then buy 200,000 Moose Mugs from the same manufacturer over the next 2 years. No problem!
Big problem! Based on the feedback from our wonderful customers, the demand for these glass Moose Mugs numbers in the hundreds, not hundreds of thousands! That demand does not justify implementing Cost Solution 1.

No biggie, let's continue! . . .

Cost Solution 2: Find smaller glass producers who can hand-produce the glass Moose Mugs, with higher quality than the large manufacturers, but in smaller numbers. The costs are slightly higher but at least we can get the glass Moose Mugs produced.

The glass goblet is close to a 6-7 oz snifter-style glass, with a diameter (at widest point) of 2-3/4", with a mouth diameter (of glass opening) of 2", with a height of 4", and a glass thickness of approximately 1/8".

This is the "Cadillac" of hand-formed glassware:
completely custom designed/stylized, completely hand/mouth-blown glass Moose Mugs
(even the snifter is hand-made)!
Each Moose Mug is mouth-blown from molten glass and is carefully shaped into a snifter-style goblet, with foot. The snout is added, the antlers are precisely shaped and attached, and then the nostrils and mouth are cleverly formed. Finally, the eyes are added, bringing the Moose Mug to life.

These glass Moose Mugs are destined to become family heirlooms as you are obtaining highly-detailed pieces of hand/mouth-blown glass - almost too nice to use for eggnog! You might have to get one for each of the kids. It could save on lots of arguments in the future!

As these Moose Mugs have become fairly popular (for movie buffs and tourists alike!), it is safest to get your order in very early, especially for the Thanksgiving/Christmas season. We will make all efforts to fill your order as soon as we can but sometimes we experience a backlog on orders. OPEN YOUR MOOSE MUGS AS SOON AS YOU RECEIVE THEM
As the Moose Mugs and Punch Bowl Antlers are completely hand-blown, they will be shipped in strong cardboard boxes (2 layers deep - a box in a box, where necessary). The 2 layers will be padded out with styrofoam 'peanut' packaging. When you receive your shipment, just carefully open the box(es) and find the moose / mooses / moosei ?!!

Please open all of your Moose Mugs as soon as you receive them. Damages must be reported within 48 hours of receiving shipment.
After 48 hours, we will not provide replacements/refunds for Moose Mugs that are damaged. Please retain all original packing materials and boxes provided. They may be needed for inspection by the shipping company.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Have fun using these! The Moose Mugs CAN be used for drinking from - that is what they were designed for.
Note: Extreme temperatures may damage these items - we DO NOT recommend serving extremely HOT beverages in these and we DO NOT recommend storing these vessels in the freezer.
To hold the Moose Mug, we recommend you 'cradle' it, under the goblet, just above the foot. Although the Moose Mugs are more than strong enough to be held by the antlers, we do not recommend holding the Moose Mugs by the antlers when they are filled with eggnog (or your favorite beverage!). The weight of the Moose Mug and the contents will be almost more than most people can hold with one hand, never mind with just a finger and a thumb. If attempted to be held by the antlers, the Moose Mug could slip from your hand and the Moose Mug and contents would meet with a messy end and nobody would enjoy that.

WASHING/STORING INSTRUCTIONS
Customers have inquired about washing these glass Moose Mugs in the DISHWASHER. As with any fine piece of hand-made glassware, we recommend hand-washing and hand-drying ONLY (drip-drying or air-drying works, also). This will insure that these items will be around, to be enjoyed, for years to come. Just use regular liquid dish soap and warm water for cleaning.

Note: For the original version Eggnog Cups, DO NOT use AMMONIA-based cleaning products (like the glass cleaner "WINDEX") to clean your Eggnog Cups. The ammonia may degrade the epoxy used to adhere the antlers and snout to the goblet.

During the 'off season', just store these Moose Mugs safely in your china cabinet/cupboard or in the boxes you received them in. Remember to keep the Moose Mugs separated from other items and from each other (so they don't fight!). Simply use cardboard, cloth, foam, bubble wrap, whatever..., to keep them apart!

Moose Mugs & eBay

We will not knowingly sell our Moose Mugs to anyone who only wants the Moose Mugs so that they can re-sell them on eBay (or on any other 'auction-type' site).

This is not a knock against eBay: this is a knock against those people who take advantage of 'uninformed' eBay shoppers (who may not realize they can buy the Moose Mugs, at www.CanadianMoose.com, at regular retail prices).

We offer our Moose Mugs on eBay, just to 'inform' the eBay traffic that the Moose Mugs are available on our website. We will not knowingly 'run up the price' of our Moose Mugs on eBay.

So, if you are buying the Moose Mugs, just to make a profit re-selling them on eBay (or whatever other 'auction-type' site),
please don't bother ordering them.
We will do everything in our power to find out the intended use of the Moose Mugs and we will turn away orders, if necessary.

Customers have contacted us, confused with other poor 'copies' of our original Moose Mugs.
"If you are the original, you can count on being copied."
Don't be fooled, though. There is only 1 original artist and he makes our CanadianMoose.com Moose Mugs.

(This is where we defend the quality (and price) of our original design Moose Mugs)

1. We have received e-mails from people who have acquired 'cheap' overseas imported glass copies of the Moose Mugs, only to find something wrong with them (uneven eyes, crooked antlers, etc.). We are very sorry but we cannot help you out with these issues. Please talk to the company who supplied you these inferior quality mugs. If they can't give you satisfaction, please return the mugs, make sure to lodge complaints where possible (eg. eBay, if that is where you got the mugs), and then come back and talk to us.

2. Acrylic, while definitely cheaper than glass, scratches easily and very quickly starts to show 'stress' fractures (check your kids' drinking glasses, for examples of this). After a few usages (especially if you put them in the dishwasher!), the state of acrylic items makes them almost embarrassing to use in public. Even though they are made of acrylic, parts (and sometimes all!) of the antlers may snap off, if the mugs are dropped. Also, with all the recent 'recalls' of products from overseas (made with dangerous chemicals), be very wary of where these acrylic mugs are made - especially if you are going to drink from them!!

3. If you are looking for 'inexpensive' versions of the cups (wonderful for kids OR for knocking around at the beach), plastic is truly a great option. Let's be serious, though. If you consider using them for your next catered event, it is certain none of your friends will see the plastic cups as a 'thoughtful expression of appreciation.' Even though they are made of plastic, parts (and sometimes all!) of the antlers may snap off, if the mugs are dropped. Also, with all the recent 'recalls' of products from overseas (made with dangerous chemicals), be very wary of where these plastic mugs are made - especially if you are going to drink from them!!
(Note: As our customers have continued to ask, we are still looking to produce our original design Moose Mugs in stronger plastic but to be made in the USA. Our original design is well worth waiting for. If you get a chance, please let the 'acrylic/plastic' competition know CanadianMoose.com is coming!)

We truly apologize for our 'high' prices, caused by the foreign exchange rates of other world currencies (in relation to our strong Canadian dollar). Our prices have not increased since we first started selling these original Moose Mugs (in 2000) and as well, we have 'eaten' every price increase handed to us since then (raw materials, labor, packaging and shipping costs, etc.). We are here for the long term and we will not sacrifice the quality of our products for any reason.
Going forward, we have already brought out our matching Punch Bowl Antlers and we are currently developing matching 'shot' glasses and matching 'shooter' glasses. We are hoping to bring out other animals in the same design as the Moose Mugs: Bear Mugs, Wolf Mugs, Beaver Mugs, etc. We are not resting on our laurels.
